Today Kurtis was ordained a Priest and Kyle was made an Elder.
Erick ordained both.

Jim & Claudia came down, Kristin & Justin and Kasey & Shawn all came to church with us and participated in the ordination with Bishop Nickerson and Howard Jones from the Stake. This is a day to remember for sure!

Kurtis made a couple of wooden spatula's in wood class and used his birthday gift to fancy them up.

Kimbers 20th Birthday

All Kimber wanted to do for her Birthday was to go camping. So we loaded up the trailer and headed up Cedar Canyon.
We ate Lasagna and french bread for dinner and of course had cake and ice cream.
We watched 17 miracles and listened and watched the storm into the night.

Great American Stampede Parade and Fishin'

Kurtis and his friends were able to lead out in the parade.

Kyle got to drive the Pooper Scooper Cart. This is a little different then riding the fire truck.

We went fishing and had a picnic but it was so cold and windy we cut the trip short.
Jacy is always good for entertaining us all though.

Kurtis decided to teach Jacy a new skill. She liked it.

Kyle wanted to have an important impact on Jacy's future too. He taught her how to dip her french fries. Not just dip them but acquire the taste for Fry Sauce.

Geocache at the Iron County Fair Grounds

We went back up Parowan Canyon and left a geocache near Kurtis' Eagle Project for FHE.

Uummmm. I can still see you! Finding a good place for the cache.

Heading back to the truck. We are lucky to get to watch Jacy on Mondays while the Smiths work.

Erick had a tag for a cow elk, land owners tag.
He and Kyle got out of the truck to decide where to start and a 4 point bull, a couple of calves and this cow came through only 20 yards from the road. That's what happens when you skip hunting on Sunday. It gets delivered almost like a gift. We are truly blessed!

Kurtis' Eagle Court of Honor

Erick welcomed everyone and talked. He told of the work put into the project Kurtis completed.
He built and installed the benches for an amphitheater to be used to teach children about nature.

Grandpa Cox talked.
Kurtis gave him his 4th mentor pin. He and Claudia have been a great support to our boys in their scouting.

Kyle read the Eagle Challenge and told Kurtis how proud he is of him.

Of course, to finish off the day we headed to Panguich Lake to fish.
As always Grandma caught a slew of fish.

Kristin and Kimber caught their share, while Kurtis snorkeled along the shore.

The guys in the boat actually caught fish big enough to keep.
Way to go Kyle, Justin, Grandpa, Erick and Bishop Nickerson.

It was a beautiful day!

Cedar Breaks Wildflowers

Deer Haven was so completely covered in the Larkspur that it almost looked like a lake.

This is heading in to Cedar Breaks

The wildflowers came out a little late this year with all the snow.
If you get a chance to drive through in the next few weeks it will only be more beautiful.

Kyle went to UVU on his birthday for a wood working competition and had a great time.
So we finally got to celebrate last Saturday. 18 years old, Holy Cow!

Kimber and Grayson special ordered these beautiful Roses for me and his mom for Mother's Day before he went in the MTC.

Kristin snuck over and planted all the pots on my front porch for me.
They look so good!

Kasey and Shawn bought me President Monsen new book. I can't wait to find a quiet moment and get lost in it.

LONESTAR

Can I just say that I LOVE my boys!
On the way to school Wednesday morning they were listening to the radio.
The radio station having a call in contest for two free tickets to Lonestar.
They won! Then when they got home they said they wanted Erick and I to have them.
So we went to the Tuacahn Amphitheatre Saturday night and had a blast!
Not to mention. Kyle earned his fifth palm and Kurtis his second palm tonight.
Thanks guys. Your the best!

Easter Weekend

We went to Yuba for our Easter weekend. They have improved the campground so much it could become our second favorite place to camp.

You have to relax while you have a chance. Kyle just keep telling yourself 4 more weeks.

The sequoia store at the park put on an Easter Egg Hunt for everyone at the Park. It was a lot of fun.

Jacy is so happy to get out of their car.

Erick and Kyle caught 4 carp on request from the neighbor with a bear tag. Apparently it makes great bait.

I guess I am not meant to have a vacation. It seems the last day I always manage to get sick. I am not allowed to relax too much , I just can't handle it. We did have a nice weekend, even with the rain. It's so nice to just hang with everyone.
I do have the best kids, As I lay in bed, Kristin made a jello salad, Kasey cooked the fish and Kimber made biscuits for our traditional Easter dinner. They cleaned up too. Family is the best!

Amazing 2 Weeks

Two weeks ago Kyle was able to get his Patriarchal Blessing. It was amazing! When we saw the Patriarch last Sunday he and his wife said in the 38 years he has been giving blessings that he has never given a blessing like it and that it was an honor to be a part of it.
Last Sunday in a special 4 ward meeting, Erick was sustained as the 2nd councilor in the Cove ward.
Last Night Erick's parents and Matt with his family came to ordain Erick to High Priest and set him apart.
Needless to say we have been on a spiritual high and very humbled.
Erick has had to jump right in with both feet.
They realigned the 4 ward boundaries affecting all the ward organizations.

Saturday

We were able to go through a session this morning to support Grayson while he took out his endowments.
Erick, Kasey, Shawn and I attended while Kimber watched Jacy.
We went to lunch and of course we hit Costco for a Sand and Water Table (Daycare write off).
Tonight we went to the reception for Erick's friends Son. There was 27 weddings this morning, the temple was very busy. It sure felt nice to get in a calm place and reflect on all my blessings.
We are really proud of Grayson. He is going to be an awesome missionary!

The Dianosis

I finally got a chance to talk to the Doctor. I am basically pre-diabetic. I don't have to take any medication. Whew! He is just taking precautions. I am going to meet with a diabetic nutritionist and learn how to control my blood sugar. I get to test it twice a week, fasting and non-fasting. So hopefully getting educated will help me avoid the real thing. I also ended up with a sinus infection and got a Z pack and feel so so so much better!
This week I should hear the results of the sleep study I did. It's possible I have sleep apnea. Like I said previously, I hope it comes back normal. Another night at the sleep center is not my idea of a good time.

Colts Baptism/our new bishop

The last two weeks have been long ones.
I went in to see Dr. Marshell just to have a routine visit so I can get refills on my prescriptions.
I always have to do a fasting blood test for my cholesterol, and he tests my thyroid levels basically a whole panel of stuff. My triglycerides always have been a little high. but this time they where double what they should be. So I got to do a second blood test to see what my sugar was doing in my body. Then came the news I have diabetes.
I also went through one of the longest nights of my life having a sleep study. I am supposed to have the results of that test back next week. I hope it comes back normal so I don't have to do another night there.
We decided to make a quick trip up for colts baptism. After the luncheon Jim let us know he was getting put in as Bishop the next day. We stayed to support him and get to see him set apart. It was a great way to end the weekend.
Dad and Mom we decided not to stop and see you on the way home because I came home with the flu and didn't want to share.

Out with the old, In with the new!

After nearly 9 years of family life and Day Care we replaced the carpet in the living room and the family room.
Everyone was so willing to help get furniture moved and the old carpet and padding pulled out.

The padding in the family room where the daycare play had basically turned to green dust.

Our new carpet is sooo soft. We love these tax write offs!

Kyle made this chair to replace one of the old ones that died!
He is so talented.

Tonight Kyle and Kurtis went to Court of Honor.
Kyle earned his forth palm. He and Kurtis earned their carpentry and path finding merit badges. These were only offered in 2010 for the 100th birthday celebration.
Kurtis also had his District board of Review this last week for his Eagle.
Be watching for his Eagle Ceremony Invitation in the mail.

December 2010

Our Computer decided to take a vacation in December and didn't manage to get back until this last Friday.
So a recap of December. I didn't just get elected Cedar City Ladies Auxiliary President, I got thrown right in for the Fireman's Christmas Party. I got to thank the outgoing presidency, introduce the new one and I run the raffle. Weird the outgoing one didn't do that. Oh well, It just gets me going a little early for the new year.

We had a nice quiet Christmas at home.

Kimber made everyone omelets for breakfast.

Santa helped Kyle finish the last of Math for his High School Requirements.

Kyle got braces.

And of course, We had a party for New Years Eve.

Some of us didn't quite make it to midnight, but we all had a great month!

Every year we make about 25 dozen cookies of assorted kinds to hand out to friends, neighbors, Co-workers, Home and Visiting Teaching families.
Kasey and Kimber tried to give their Shawn and Grayson cookie men a six pack which worked great until we cooked them.
Kyle got to dress up like Santa to take goodies to his Home Teaching families.

We had all the kids and their families here for Thanksgiving.
It is so nice that we are all still close enough to do that.
We braved black Friday together and then we braved snow covered mountains in search of the perfect Christmas trees.

Unexpected Surprise!

So I am sitting at home minding my own business, watching Jacy and I get a phone call.
Stephanie Greenhaugh the Cedar City Ladies Auxiliary President called to congratulate me on being elected to President for 2011. I had decided to skip the meeting. I have been Historian, Trustee, and have done 4 quilts for our auction and decided to try to simplify what little I have control over.
BAAHAA!!! Even when I am not there I am still not in control of anything. So everyone be patient this year with me. I will be even more scatterbrained then normal!

A quick trip to the zoo!

Kimber had to visit the Zoo for extra credit for her Anthropology Class.
She had to look at all the monkeys and observe one of them for an hour.

He's not a monkey but we liked him and his baby.

Jim and Claudia took us to Olive Garden Afterward.
They brought us mints after dinner and the boys taught us the fine art of twisting the wrappers into poppers.

They all shot them pretty good. But Grandma shot hers about 6 feet into the other room.
That's when they decided we were done. GO GRANDMA!!

Last winter a 4-wheeler took out our green mailbox.
A month or so later the paper boy took it out again along with the plastic newspaper box.
Today we are putting it to rest when a Day Care mom on the phone sneezed causing her to jerk the steering wheel.
Needless to say her SUV looks worse with its new green pin stripe.
Being the warped person that I am, I laughed. I have wanted to paint the mailbox because it didn't match the house any more since we painted the shutters and door.
I am now color coordinated again. Yeah!

A Great Visit

Dad and Mom Wood came down this last week to deliver Kurtis' Birthday gift.
It was so great to get to visit with them.
Dad loaded us up with peppers, squash and tomatoes, all of which we are grateful for.

I am so greatful for Kurtis.
This last week playing football against Desert Hills Kurtis was hit hard and now has an acute Lumbar sprain. The Doctor said he is done for this season and will be spending alot of time in physical therpy. Tonight is supposed to be his last game and I am sure it will be hard for him to stay on the sidelines and just watch. He is definately a great part of our family and we are so blessed to get to spend time with him.
Watching him become the young man he is and making goals for himself makes me so proud of him.

With all the Day Care and their schedules, my children and their schedules, KFC and all that that entails, Eagle Projects, Bottling and freezing, Cleaning and weeding the list never ends. Then we go to take the dirty diaper to the Trash and witness this rainbow. It gives us hope. We live in a beautiful world and all this will be worth it in the end.
Thank heavens the Lord gives us these reminders when we need them.

We completed the physical end of the Eagle Project and got the Blazer running again so...
Like always we go fishing. We BBQed up some steaks, burger and sausages on the shore and then fished until we couldn't see.

The algae was so thick at Newcastle that Kimber was drawing pictures in it with her fishing line. Creative huh!

More Eagle Stuff

We went up to Parawon Canyon last week and spray painted all the steel posts that are set for benches to help keep them from rusting.

We started out in the light but finished painting by flashlight

Kimber, Kyle, Erick, Kurtis and I were able to finish and hike back out by flashlight. It was actually pretty fun. We head back up on Saturday to assemble all the benches and clean up the trail and we will just have to get the paper work completed. Yeah! We are almost there.

Wood Family Reunion

This is how our trip to the family reunion started. A blow out. Thank goodness Erick noticed it quickly, before any more damage could happen. When we went to replace the tire we found the back tire on the other side of the trailer was ready to do the same thing. We are truely watched over!

Erick's Big Firefighter Challenge

The Cedar City Firefighters have to train every Tuesday.

They broke into 3 teams, worked together to train and improve the time and technique for a month and then competed against each other. Erick's team completed their challenge in 43 minutes. They will find out who won next week.

Eagle Project

Kurtis is working with the DWR to build a ampitheatre so they can bring school groups and such up to learn about the animals and vegetation in the area. Trees were cleared out and the land teired.

We had 9 dedicated hunters, plus our family there to get all the posts set.

This is quite a project. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Legacy Center in Lehi

We went to the Legacy Center in Lehi when we came up for the weddings.

This place was great! We all had fun, but I had the best job!!!
What a bunch of cute kids.

An alarm would sound when this bucket was going to dump and everyone would run over to get caught in the down pour.

Kristin loved going down the slide. It was a black tunnel. SPoOky!

Wood Family Reunion

Just thought I'd let you know.
We have checked out the group site and there is plenty of room for anyone who would like to bring their trailer in the group area. Plus there is still 6 to 8 tent sites.
It has a great new large pavilion that is enclosed on two sides and has electricity. There is a great fire pit and grassy area. (No tents on the lawn)
They have rebuilt both bathroom areas. They are really nice flushing toilets and between both bathroom areas there is about a dozen private shower stalls(rooms).
Antimony is about 5 miles from the park.
Their church services on Sunday start at 10 a.m. Relief Society first.
This should be a lot of fun. We will see you all there!

Another Day At A Different Lake

I know we have gone to Otter Creek quite often but we haven't been since last May.

I actually missed it. It was a perfect day. A little overcast just the right temperature and I once again not only caught the best fish, but 1 of 3 caught.

Kurtis kept Kasey and I baited up and ready to go.

Shawn and Erick gave it their all, but fishing from the shore was better then the boat this time. Kyle and his friend Taylor had stayed 3 days in Antimony going on a 4 wheelin' trip. They where heading down to Hell's Backbone but it was cut short by a number of down pours. They met us at the lake and fished and ate with us before riding back to Antimony for the night.

We had such a great time on Monday and it was so beautiful that we decided to go back on Friday for the weekend. Kurtis is being so patient for the big fish.
Erick finally got everybodys line in the water and can relax for a minute.

Well, Kyle didn't catch any "killer big ones" but he caught quite a few little guys.

They will live for another day.

Jacy is off oxygen, IV and everything!

This sweet girl just has to eat good and show she can sit in her car seat for an 1 1/2 hours without any problems and she will get to come home.
Kasey is feeling great, So great she has to be reminded not to lift stuff.

Jacy had her C-pap changed to regular oxygen last night and all her test levels are coming back good. All it took was a visit from Grandma and Grandpa for her to decide to get better so she can come home and get spoiled!

After Day Care I headed to Hurricane and picked Erick up at the UDOT yard and met Kasey and Shawn at Golden Corral for dinner. Everyone gets kicked out of the Neonatal ICU from 5 pm until 7:30 for Shift Change. Probably a good thing to get people out and getting a break.
We got to visit our sweet Jacy. They have finally been feeding her more than an IV and she is staying right at birth weight. They took her off the ventilator and have her on a C-pap machine now. She kicks back under the bellyrueban light like she is going for a tan. She is still hooked up to a lot of tubes and stuff but is improving everyday. When she left Cedar she was breathing up around 100 breathes a minute and now she is staying close to the 30's. Not struggling nearly as hard. Kasey is healing very well from the C-section. She has had very little pain medication and is walking around, but is still having to take it a bit easy. We sure feel our prayers are being answered and are so greatful for this sweet little girl.
This all makes you really reflect on what matters most.

Jacy is still struggling so hard to breath that they took her to St. George Neonatal ICU.
They aspirated her before heading down and when she arrives they will give her some medicine that will help open up her lungs so breathing will be easier. The Dr. said just the drop in elevation will help her breath better. So we all are praying that she will improve. Shawn rode in the ambulance to be with her. Kasey finally was able to go see Jacy. It was so hard to have to wait and I am not sure Kasey will leave her again very willingly any time soon.
Jacy was put on antibiotics last night. She has a little fluid in her lungs so they are making sure she doesn't get pneumonia. She is struggling so hard to open her lungs up that they put a oxygen thing in her nose that has longer prongs to force the air and open her lungs up all the way. The Doctor will reevaluate that at 2pm. Her color is so good and she is alot more calm today. But when people come in and start messing with the tubes and stuff she gets very mad and lets them know it.

When we were leaving the hospital we took one last peek at Jacy. She has her hands behind her head just chillaxing under her heat lamp. She was 3 weeks early.
GREAT Grandma and Grandpa Cox came down to bring Gentry to meet up with her dad. Imagine their surprise to get to meet their 1st great grandchild.

The Story you all must know is that Shawn and Kasey had gone up for their family reunion with

Shawn's mom's side of the family. After breakfast they all went on a 4-wheeler ride. Kasey though going slow drove up the side of a rock and the bike tipped over pinning her legs. Shawn got to her quickly. Her legs are bruised and scrapped but OK. This put her into labor though. So leaving EVERYTHING else on the mountain they went to Valley View Hospital and began to be monitored. The contractions continued and since Jacy was breech they scheduled the C-section. Kasey is doing great although exhausted. Jacy's oxygen is staying up but is staying in the nursery tonight to be monitored. They are doing blood work and X-rays to see how everything is developed. The latest word is she is continuing to improve.

Kyle entered the cabinet he's been building in SUU's Technology Fair. He won 3rd place!
The horns are from the first deer he shot. He is in the process of building the top half, it is a gun cabinet. His room is getting a little crowded. He has built a full size log bed frame, cedar chest, night stand, dresser and now this cabinet. This man has definitely get talent!

Erick decided to put his hat in the race hoping to change a bunch of issues that our current commissioners have really shoved down our throats. Erick only lacked a few votes to continue to the primary elections, but he and another did force out the incumbent running for re election. And that was very important.

Our neighbor Robert Cox had been milking a cow while the owners were gone for Easter and shared with us.

The Wood Reunion will be at Otter Creek this year Sept. 4Th through the 6Th the theme is Redneck Yacht Club. There will be lots of games and activities. We will be at the group site next to the lake, it is tents only unless you get a spot for your trailer. This is just a reminder, there will be meal plans sent out for each family so start getting ready it will be a blast.!

Erick and Scott Erick worked Saturday and Sunday at the firehouse. We always hear how he vacuums, dusts, mops ect, but never see it at home so we weren't sure it could be true.

When we showed up for our contest all 4 firefighters were scrubbing out the truck bays. Then we were told they had just cleaned the kitchen and if we got it dirty the losers were cleaning the bathrooms. Needless to say the kitchen was left clean!

Three weeks later I got a look at it and took him to the Foot Dr.
He had a fast little toenail removing surgery done and though it still looks gross he says it feels better. He was too shy to let me take a really sick picture of it. So its everybodys lucky day.
